“Brian Millar, Paintings” Opening Reception
March 16, 2018 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm
FreeBrian Millar is a contemplative artist, with a penchant for making large, abstract paintings. He was a member of a Buddhist community for 7 years, a Tai Chi instructor, an Organizer/Member of a contemplative prayer group and a Facilitator/Organizer for a Non-Violent Communication Study group.
He is also a Rennaissance man, who has designed store fronts for Art Galleries and films, painted backdrops for theater, created public art installations, paintings and fine furniture and wrote, produced and directed a short film called “Sketch #One.”
In between he has studied art at the Cleveland Institute of Art, The Dayton Art Institute, Webster College, St Louis, MO, The University of Cincinnati, The University of Dayton and The Union Institute of Cincinnati.
Millar does paintings that are rooted in the traditions of Paul Klee, Wassily Kadinsky, Willem de Kooning and Adolf Gottlieb. Working with no planned outcome, he uses elements of visual language (line, shape, color, dark/light, texture, etc.) in an improvisational way.
“My interest in this approach is the use of visual language without reference to word language, or to any extraneous reference other than the painted surface. I believe this approach can bring about a poetry unique to the visual image.” Brian Millar
Opening Reception March 16th 6-9 p.m.
Artists Talk 7 pm.
