Summer Arts Institute: Myths Magic and Folklore through Clay and the Creative Spirit
About This Event
This week-long class will focus on developing your own character(s) from folklore, mythology, or family history. Materials, lodging, daily yoga, breakfast and lunch, and access to the Antioch College Wellness Center included.
The workshop will be focused on making small mixed-medium figures like dolls, puppets or sculptures, with hands, feet and faces made from clay. The glazed, fired and assembled pieces will be shown in the Antioch College Herndon Gallery on Friday evening, July 31st.
Workshops will be led by Juliellen Byrne, Lead Instructor, and Amy Ivanoff, Studio Assistant, and participants will be offered inspiration from folklore through a series of story-based talks led by Maureen Pritchard.

Schedule
- Sunday, July 26 – 4:30 PM Meet and Greet at the Herndon Gallery
- Monday & Tuesday, July 27–28 – Yoga (7-8 AM), breakfast (8-9 AM), late morning presentations by Maureen Pritchard, afternoon work time with Julie and Amy, dinner in Yellow Springs, evening studio time until 10 PM
- Wednesday, July 29 – Yoga (7-8 AM), breakfast (8-9 AM), finished projects go into the kiln for firing, dinner in Yellow Springs, evening studio time until 10 PM
- Thursday, July 30 – Yoga (7-8 AM), breakfast (8-9 AM), work day with Julie and Amy, dinner in Yellow Springs, evening studio time until 10 PM
- Friday, July 31 – Yoga (7-8 AM), breakfast (8-9 AM), work day with Julie and Amy, evening gallery show setup and reception
- Saturday, August 1 – Yoga (7-8 AM), breakfast (8-9 AM), review, clean up, and move out
Lunch is served 11:30 AM – 1:30 PM daily. Dinner is not provided; participants are encouraged to explore Yellow Springs dining options.
